NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-Mile Race Report

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Despite the wind and frigid temperature, 2,260 men and 2,249 women completed the NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-mile in Central Park yesterday. Overall, there was a 4.7% attendance drop compared to the 2006 NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-mile (which was about 6 degrees warmer). For the men, the average pace was 8:02 min./mile and the median pace was 7:56 min./mile. For the women, the average pace was 9:32 min./mile and the median pace was 9:19 min./mile. Runners seemed to enjoy the course, including the downhill finish on the East Drive at 98th Street, which gave them an extra bit of speed at the end. To see complete results, click here for the men’s race and here for the women’s race. Pre- and post-race discussion can be found on the Runner’s World forum.

NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-Mile Results Posted

Saturday, February 24th, 2007

Results have been posted for the NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-Mile (men, women). As of right now, it seems that they may be treating the “gun time” as the official times for runners. This contradicts what was announced at the race, that net times would be treated as the official times.

UPDATE: The results have been corrected.

Tomorrow: NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-Mile

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Tomorrow morning is the NYRR Al Gordon Snowflake 4-Mile. NYRR has updated their website with the course description. This year the race is going to start on East Drive and 99th Street, making a counter-clockwise loop of the park using the 102nd Street Transverse and then the 72nd Street Transverse (”Bethesda Terrace”). Construction on Bethesda Terrace is still in progress, so use caution in that area. According to NOAA, tomorrow morning should be sunny but windy and cool. This race is not going to be a wave start, presumably because of the fact that men and women race separately. The men’s start is at 8:00 a.m. and the women’s start is at 9:00 a.m. Good luck!
