2010 NYC Marathon Application Available 11/2

The 2010 ING New York City Marathon application will be available on November 2nd, 2009, the day after this year’s marathon. From the official NYC Marathon site:

By adding 12 weeks to the training schedule, NYRR hopes to attract runners from a wider spectrum of ability, from experienced runners to novices — even people who have never run a step.

At NYRR, our purpose is to grow the community and sport of running to promote health and wellness. Of course, the ING New York City Marathon will still be organized to attract the best in the world, the best in each age group, and experienced runners looking for a personal best. But now there’s more room — and more time — for everyone.

In the News: NYRR Victim of Real Estate Scheme

The New York Times reports that New York Road Runners was the victim of a real estate scheme in Harlem:

By May 2008, an independent developer agreed to buy Mr. Vargas’s share for $4.8 million, giving him a $1 million down payment.

Five months later, New York Road Runners, the nonprofit organizer of the New York City Marathon, signed a contract to buy the same 60 percent share for $8.5 million.

NYRR never completed the transaction:

The Road Runners never paid Mr. Vargas any money, prosecutors said, but put $1 million into an escrow account. The group also spent about $300,000 in fees for lawyers and other consultants related to the transaction, prosecutors said.

NYC Marathon Bib and Start Assignments Available

Runners can now log in to find out their bib number and wave assignment for the 2009 ING New York City Marathon. Start color can be determined with using this page.
